- Lasagna noodles – 12 pieces
- Ground beef – 1 pound
- Italian sausage – 1 pound casings removed
- Onion – 1 medium chopped
- Garlic – 3 cloves minced
- Crushed tomatoes – 28 oz can
- Tomato paste – 6 oz can
- Tomato sauce – 15 oz can
- Fresh basil – 2 tablespoons chopped
- Salt – 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
- Ricotta cheese – 2 cups
- Egg – 1 large
- Mozzarella cheese – 4 cups shredded
- Parmesan cheese – 1 cup grated
- Olive oil – 1 tablespoon
Prepare the Sauce
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, basil, salt and pepper to the meat. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally to blend flavors.
Assemble the Lasagna
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella.
