  • 8 oz 225g cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 –2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • A pinch of salt optional

Instructions

Beat the Butter

  • Put the butter in a bowl. Beat until it is soft and smooth.

Add Cream Cheese

  • Add cream cheese to the butter. Beat until fully mixed.

Mix in Vanilla

  • Pour in vanilla extract. Beat for 30 seconds more.

Add Powdered Sugar

  • Add powdered sugar one cup at a time. Mix well after each cup.

Check Texture

  • Stop when frosting is thick and creamy. It should hold its shape.

Add Cream Slowly

  • Add 1 tablespoon cream. Mix. Add more if needed.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the frosting. Add a pinch of salt if too sweet.

Chill If Needed

  • If frosting is too soft, chill for 10 minutes. Then mix again.

Frost Your Cake

  • Spread frosting on your cake or cupcakes. Use a spatula for smooth edges.

Store Leftovers

  • Keep leftover frosting in the fridge. Use within 3 days.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter and cream cheese.
  • Sift powdered sugar to avoid lumps.
  • Beat well for a smooth texture.
  • Add cream slowly to avoid a runny frosting.
  • Chill the frosting if it gets too soft.
