Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups long-grain rice
  • 1 pound smoked sausage sliced
  • 1 pound chicken in small pieces
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 chopped celery stalk
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Chop the vegetables, slice the sausage and chop the chicken to ensure it cooks quickly and evenly.

Heat the Oil

  • The oil is then heated in a large pot at medium heat to enable you to begin cooking the meat.

Brown the Sausage

  • Add the sausage and cook until it becomes brown and produces a strong and nice smell.

Cook the Chicken

  • Put in the chicken and cook it until it becomes white and does not have any raw bites.

Add the Vegetables

  • Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic and stir until they become soft and smell pleasant.

Add the Spices

  • Add pepper, cayenne, oregano, thyme, and salt. So stir to make all flavor.

Add Tomatoes

  • Add the diced tomatoes and stir it in such that they mix with the vegetables and spices.

Add the Rice

  • Put the rice in and stir it lightly until every single grain receives the spices and oil.

Add the Broth

  • Slowly pour the chicken broth and stir to evenly spread the rice in the pot.

Bring to a Boil

  • Heat it and then boil the pot at low intensity stirring occasionally to avoid sticking.

Simmer the Dish

  • Reduce the heat, wrap up the pot and allow the rice to cook gradually until it becomes tender.

Check the Texture

  • Lid Uncover the lid and ensure that the rice has absorbed the liquid and is soft.

Adjust Seasoning

  • Taste the jambalaya and add more salt, pepper, or spices in case you want it more powerful.

Add Green Onions

  • Add chopped green onions sprinkled on top to add color and make it light and bright.

Let It Rest

  • Switch off the heat and allow the dish to cool down a couple of minutes to allow the flavors to settle.

Notes

  • Smoked sausage is used to add flavor.
  • Allow the vegetables to cook slowly so as to become more sweet.
  • Good broth will be used to enhance the flavor.
  • Cover the rice with a lid when cooking.
