Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Wash and peel the potatoes carefully. Slice them into thin even pieces so they cook evenly and become soft and creamy in the oven.

Make the Cream Sauce

  • Heat butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook lightly. Then add flour and whisk until smooth and slightly thick.

Add Milk and Cream

  • Slowly pour milk and heavy cream into the saucepan. Whisk continuously so the mixture stays smooth and does not form any lumps.

Add Seasoning

  • Add salt, black pepper, onion powder and thyme into the sauce. Stir well and cook until the sauce becomes creamy and slightly thick.

Add Cheese

  • Mix cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese into the sauce. Stir until fully melted and smooth. The sauce should look rich and creamy.

Layer the Potatoes

  • Grease a baking dish with butter. Place a layer of sliced potatoes at the bottom. Pour a little cheese sauce over them evenly.

Repeat Layers

  • Continue layering potatoes and sauce until everything is used. Make sure the top layer is covered well with creamy cheese sauce.

Bake the Dish

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the potatoes for about 60 minutes until soft, golden, and bubbling on top.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove from oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm as a creamy and rich side dish with your meal.

Notes

  • Slice potatoes evenly for perfect cooking
  • Use fresh cream for richer flavor
  • Do not skip cheese for creamy texture
  • Let sauce thicken before layering
  • Bake until golden and bubbling
  • Add extra garlic for stronger taste
  • Use sharp cheddar cheese
  • Rest before serving for better texture
  • Cover dish if top browns too fast
