Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cans 15 oz each kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can 15 oz pinto beans, drained
  • 2 cans 15 oz each diced tomatoes
  • 1 can 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

Cook the Beef

  • Add olive oil to a pot. Put in ground beef and cook until it turns brown. Break into small pieces.

Add Onion and Garlic

  • Add chopped onion and garlic. Stir and cook until onion becomes soft and golden.

Add Spices

  • Sprinkle chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne. Stir so the meat gets full flavor.

Add Tomatoes and Sauce

  • Pour diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Mix everything well for a rich tomato taste.

Add Beans

  • Add kidney and pinto beans. Stir gently so they stay whole and don’t break.

Pour Broth

  • Add beef broth. Stir to mix. This helps make the chili thick and rich.

Simmer Slowly

  • Lower the heat. Cover and cook for 30–35 minutes. Stir sometimes to stop it from sticking.

Check Taste

  • Taste your chili. Add more salt or chili powder if you want stronger flavor.

Serve Hot

  • Put chili into bowls. Top with cheese, sour cream, or green onions. Enjoy while hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh onion and garlic for strong flavor.
  • Brown the meat well before adding other items.
  • Add a pinch of sugar if the chili is too sour.
  • Cook it slowly to let all flavors mix nicely.
  • Use two kinds of beans for better taste and texture.
  • If you want it thicker, cook without the lid for 10 minutes.
