Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh peaches peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted

Instructions

Prepare the Peaches

  • Wash, peel and slice the peaches evenly. Mix them with both sugars, lemon juice, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and cornstarch until every slice is coated with the sweet mixture.

Heat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease the baking dish with butter or cooking spray so the cobbler releases easily after baking.

Make the Batter

  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly add the milk and melted butter. Stir until you have a smooth batter with no dry flour remaining.

Add the Batter

  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Do not stir it after pouring. This helps create the classic cobbler texture while baking.

Spoon on the Peaches

  • Carefully spoon the peach mixture over the batter. Spread the peaches evenly across the surface without mixing. The batter will rise around the fruit during baking.

Bake Until Golden

  • Bake the cobbler for about 45 minutes. The top should become golden brown and the peach filling should bubble gently around the edges.

Let It Rest

  • Remove the cobbler from the oven and place it on a cooling rack. Let it rest for fifteen minutes so the filling thickens before serving.

Serve Warm

  • Scoop the warm cobbler into bowls. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a rich and comforting homemade dessert.

Notes

  • Use ripe peaches.
  • Fresh peaches taste best.
  • Do not overmix the batter.
  • Leave the batter and peaches unstirred.
  • Add extra cinnamon if desired.
  • Use real butter.
  • Let the cobbler rest before serving.
  • Serve warm with ice cream.
  • Add chopped pecans for crunch.
  • Sprinkle coarse sugar on top before baking.
