Ingredients

  • 2 ahi tuna steaks about 6 oz each
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions or lemon slices optional

Instructions

Prepare the Tuna

  • Dry the tuna steaks with paper towels. Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides. This keeps the tuna tasty and fresh.

Make the Marinade

  • Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, olive oil, rice vinegar, honey, ginger, and garlic in a bowl. Stir well. This will be your sauce and marinade.

Marinate the Tuna

  • Put the tuna in the bowl and coat well. Let it sit for 10–15 minutes. Turn it once so both sides get flavor.

Heat the Pan

  • Place a pan on medium-high heat. Add a few drops of oil. Wait until the pan gets very hot.

Sear the Tuna

  • Put the tuna steaks in the hot pan. Cook for 1–2 minutes on each side. The middle should stay pink. That’s what makes it soft and juicy.

Add Sesame Seeds

  • Sprinkle sesame seeds on both sides. They add a nice crunch and nutty flavor.

Slice and Serve

  • Remove the tuna from the pan and let it rest for a minute. Cut it into thin slices. Serve it with the sauce or marinade.

Notes

  • Use fresh, sushi-grade tuna.
  • Don’t cook it too long. It should stay pink inside.
  • Heat the pan well before adding the fish.
  • Cut the tuna right before serving.
  • Add lemon juice for extra freshness.
