Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional for heat
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch optional, helps thicken taco sauce

Instructions

Mix the Spices

  • Add all the spices into a small bowl — chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.

Stir Well

  • Use a whisk or spoon to mix everything until the blend looks even. Make sure there are no lumps.

Add Cornstarch (Optional)

  • If you want your taco filling to have a slight sauce, mix in cornstarch. It helps the seasoning stick better to the meat when cooking.

Store the Mix

  • Transfer the seasoning into a clean airtight jar or spice container. Label it and store it in a cool, dry place.

Use When Needed

  • To season taco meat, use about 2 tablespoons of this mix per pound of ground beef or chicken. Add ⅓ cup of water while cooking to bring out the flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh spices for the best flavor.
  • Adjust chili powder for your spice level.
  • Add a pinch of sugar for a mild sweet touch.
  • Keep it in a sealed jar for up to 6 months.
  • Mix a big batch to save time later.
