Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb navy beans soaked overnight
  • 1 ham bone with meat
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 celery stalks diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 8 cups water or broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

Soak beans

  • Soak navy beans overnight. Drain them before cooking.

Cook base

  • In a pot, add ham bone, beans, and broth.

Add veggies

  • Add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic.

Season

  • Add bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Simmer

  • Cook on low heat for 2 hours. Stir sometimes.
  • Add ham
  • Add diced ham in the last 20 minutes.
  • Remove bone
  • Take out ham bone and bay leaves.
  • Serve hot
  • Serve the soup in bowls. Eat warm and thick.

Notes

  • Soak beans overnight for soft beans.
  • Use ham bone for better taste.
  • Add more broth if soup is too thick.
  • Add salt near the end for best flavor.
