- 1 lb navy beans soaked overnight
- 1 ham bone with meat
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 onion chopped
- 2 carrots diced
- 2 celery stalks diced
- 3 garlic cloves minced
- 8 cups water or broth
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Simmer
Cook on low heat for 2 hours. Stir sometimes.
Add ham
Add diced ham in the last 20 minutes.
Remove bone
Take out ham bone and bay leaves.
Serve hot
Serve the soup in bowls. Eat warm and thick.
- Soak beans overnight for soft beans.
- Use ham bone for better taste.
- Add more broth if soup is too thick.
- Add salt near the end for best flavor.
