Ingredients

  • Martha White cornmeal mix – 2 cups
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Vegetable oil or melted butter – ¼ cup

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Grease a baking dish or skillet lightly. This helps prevent sticking and ensures even baking throughout the cornbread.

Mix the Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, add cornmeal mix, egg, milk and oil. Stir well until smooth. Do not overmix. The batter should be slightly thick but pourable.

Pour the Batter

  • Pour the batter into the greased baking dish. Spread it evenly using a spoon or spatula. This ensures even cooking and a smooth surface.

Bake the Cornbread

  • Place the dish in the oven. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden brown on top. Insert a toothpick in the center. It should come out clean.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove from oven and let it cool slightly. Cut into squares and serve warm. Enjoy soft and fresh cornbread with your favorite meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh cornmeal mix for best flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter.
  • Preheat oven properly before baking.
  • Use a cast iron skillet for crispy edges.
  • Add a little butter on top for extra richness.
