Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 4 cups marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Noodles

  • Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a clean towel. This prevents them from sticking while you prepare the sauce and cheese mixture.

Make the Meat Sauce

  • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook for 3 minutes. Add ground beef and Italian sausage. Brown the meat and drain excess fat.

Add Marinara and Herbs

  • Pour marinara sauce into the meat mixture. Add dried basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to combine flavors. Stir occasionally for even cooking.

Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with one egg, a pinch of salt and half of the Parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth and creamy. This will be the creamy layer in your lasagna.

Assemble the Lasagna

  • Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer noodles on top, then ricotta mixture, meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.

Top and Bake

  • Finish with a layer of mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until cheese is golden.

Rest and Serve

  • Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm with your favorite side dishes like garlic bread or salad.

Notes

  • Use fresh pasta if possible for better texture
  • Don’t overcook noodles to avoid mushy layers
  • Simmer sauce to develop deep flavors
  • Use a mix of mozzarella and Parmesan for richness
  • Let it rest before slicing to hold shape
