Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • 1/2 cup raisins or chocolate chips optional

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. This prevents cookies from sticking and helps even baking.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In a bowl, beat butter, brown sugar and white sugar together. Mix until light and fluffy. This step gives cookies a soft and rich texture.

Add Eggs and Vanilla

  • Add eggs one at a time. Mix well after each egg. Then add vanilla extract. Stir until everything becomes smooth and creamy.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix well so all dry ingredients are evenly spread.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixture

  • Slowly add dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir gently until combined. Do not overmix. This keeps cookies soft and chewy.

Add Oats and Extras

  • Add rolled oats and optional raisins or chocolate chips. Mix gently. The dough will be thick and slightly sticky.

Shape the Cookies

  • Take small spoonfuls of dough. Place them on the baking tray. Leave space between each cookie for spreading during baking.

Bake the Cookies

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden. The center should look slightly soft. Do not overbake for best texture.

Cool the Cookies

  • Let cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes. Then move them to a cooling rack. They will firm up as they cool.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for better mixing.
  • Do not overmix the dough.
  • Chill dough for thicker cookies.
  • Use fresh oats for best texture.
  • Add nuts for extra crunch.
  • Bake until edges are golden only.
