Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

For topping:

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking tray or loaf pan. This helps prevent sticking and ensures even cooking of the meatloaf.

Soak the Breadcrumbs

  • In a bowl, mix breadcrumbs and milk. Let it sit for a few minutes. This makes the meatloaf soft and moist after baking.

Mix the Ingredients

  • Add ground beef, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and parsley. Mix gently until combined. Do not overmix or meatloaf may become tough.

Shape the Meatloaf

  • Place the mixture on a baking tray. Shape it into a loaf using your hands. Keep the shape even for uniform cooking.

Prepare the Topping

  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Spread this mixture evenly on top of the meatloaf for a sweet and tangy glaze.

Bake the Meatloaf

  • Place the tray in the oven. Bake for about 50 minutes. The meatloaf should be fully cooked and slightly browned on top.

Check for Doneness

  • Use a knife to check inside. It should be cooked through with no pink color. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.

Slice and Serve

  • Cut into thick slices and serve warm. Enjoy with your favorite sides for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for best flavor
  • Do not overmix the meat mixture
  • Add milk for a moist texture
  • Let meatloaf rest before slicing
  • Use a thermometer for perfect cooking
  • Add herbs for extra flavor
