Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup ketchup for topping
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar for glaze

Instructions

Prepare the oven and pan

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a loaf pan lightly with oil or butter. You can also use a baking sheet if you prefer a free-form meatloaf shape.

Mix dry ingredients

  • In a large bowl, add breadcrumbs, salt, pepper and dried thyme. Mix them well so flavors spread evenly through the meat mixture later.

Add wet ingredients

  • Now add eggs, milk, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce into the bowl. Stir everything gently until it becomes a smooth and slightly wet mixture base.

Add ground beef

  • Place ground beef into the bowl. Mix slowly using your hands or spoon. Do not overmix or meatloaf may become too dense and dry.

Shape the meatloaf

  • Transfer mixture into loaf pan or shape by hand. Press lightly to form a firm loaf. Make sure edges are smooth for even cooking.

Prepare the glaze

  • Mix ketchup and brown sugar in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and slightly thick. This glaze adds sweet and tangy flavor on top.

Add glaze and bake

  • Spread glaze evenly over meatloaf. Place in oven and bake for about 60 minutes. Check internal temperature reaches 160°F for safe cooking.

Rest before serving

  • Remove meatloaf from oven carefully. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps juices stay inside and keeps meatloaf soft.

Notes

  • Always use fresh ground beef
  • Do not overmix meat mixture
  • Let meatloaf rest before cutting
  • Use a thermometer for accuracy
  • Add vegetables for extra flavor
