Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

Instructions

Heat the oil

  • Warm olive oil in a saucepan. Let it heat until it shimmers slightly on top.

Cook the onions

  • Add chopped onions. Cook until soft and light golden. Stir often for even cooking.

Add the garlic

  • Add minced garlic. Cook only one minute. Garlic burns fast so keep stirring gently.

Add tomatoes

  • Pour in crushed tomatoes. Mix well with the onions and garlic. Keep the heat low.

Add seasonings

  • Add salt, pepper, sugar, oregano and tomato paste. Stir until everything blends perfectly.

Simmer the sauce

  • Let the sauce cook on low heat. Simmer for 20 minutes until flavors become rich.

Add the basil

  • Stir in fresh basil. Turn off the heat. Basil adds fresh aroma to the warm sauce.

Taste and adjust

  • Taste the sauce. Add extra salt or sugar if needed. Keep it balanced and smooth.

Notes

  • Use good olive oil for the best flavor.
  • Cook onions slowly for sweeter taste.
  • Add sugar to cut tomato acidity.
  • Use fresh basil for rich aroma.
  • Simmer longer for deeper flavor.
