Ingredients
  

  • All-purpose flour – 1½ cups
  • Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Brown sugar – ¾ cup
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter – 4 tablespoons melted
  • Buttermilk – 1 cup
  • Guinness beer – 1 cup
  • Honey – 2 tablespoons

Instructions
 

Prepare the oven

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the loaf pan lightly with butter or oil.

Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk flours, brown sugar, baking soda and salt until evenly combined.

Mix wet ingredients

  • In another bowl, mix buttermilk, Guinness, honey and melted butter until smooth.

Combine mixtures

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ones. Stir gently until just mixed. Do not overmix.

Fill the pan

  • Pour batter into the loaf pan. Smooth the top gently with a spoon.

Bake the bread

  • Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes until firm and a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool before slicing

  • Let the bread cool for ten minutes. Remove and cool fully before slicing.

Notes

  • Use fresh baking soda for proper rise.
