Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions

Instructions

Blanch the Beans

  • Boil the beans for three minutes. Drain them fast. Place them in cold water to keep the color fresh and bright.

Cook the Onion and Garlic

  • Heat butter in a skillet. Add chopped onion and garlic. Stir until soft and golden.

Add the Mushrooms

  • Add sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook them until they shrink and release their water.

Make the Cream Sauce

  • Sprinkle flour on the mushrooms. Stir well. Add chicken broth and cream. Cook until the sauce becomes thick.

Add the Beans

  • Place the green beans into the sauce. Stir gently to coat everything well.

Move to a Baking Dish

  • Pour the bean mix into your baking dish. Spread it evenly so it bakes right.

Add the Crispy Onions

  • Sprinkle fried onions all over the top. Cover the dish fully for a crisp top.

Bake the Casserole

  • Bake at 375°F for 20 minutes. Remove when the top looks golden and crunchy.

Notes

  • Use fresh beans for best taste.
  • Cook the sauce until thick.
  • Add more onions if you want extra crunch.
  • Do not overcook the beans.
  • Taste the sauce before baking.
