Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes prepared with butter and milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted (for topping)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Cook Ground Beef

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces.

Add Vegetables

  • Add onion, garlic and diced carrots to beef. Cook 5–7 minutes until vegetables soften, stirring occasionally for even cooking.

Mix in Tomato Paste and Worcestershire Sauce

  • Stir in tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly with meat and vegetables for a rich, flavorful filling.

Add Frozen Peas

  • Add frozen peas and cook 2–3 minutes. Stir gently to combine, ensuring peas stay bright green and tender.

Transfer to Baking Dish

  • Pour the beef and vegetable mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread evenly for a smooth layer.

Top with Mashed Potatoes

  • Spoon mashed potatoes over meat layer. Spread evenly and smooth with a spatula. Make small peaks for a golden finish.

Add Butter on Top

  • Brush melted butter over mashed potato layer. This ensures a golden, crispy topping after baking.

Bake the Cottage Pie

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.

Serve Warm

  • Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes. Serve warm with extra butter if desired.
