Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer with dough hook (optional)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rolling Pin
  • Small bowl
  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Clean kitchen towel
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast and salt. Add warm milk, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for about eight minutes until smooth and elastic.

Let the Dough Rise

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for one hour. The dough should double in size.

Make the Filling

  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Keep the softened butter ready. This sweet filling gives rich flavor to the cinnamon rolls.

Roll Out the Dough

  • Punch down the risen dough gently. Place it on a floured surface. Roll into a large rectangle, about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter evenly over the surface.

Add the Cinnamon Filling

  • Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the butter layer. Make sure to cover all edges. Press lightly so the filling sticks well to the dough.

Roll and Cut

  • Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Cut into twelve equal pieces using a sharp knife or dental floss. Place rolls in a greased baking dish.

Second Rise

  • Cover the rolls with a towel. Let them rise again for about thirty minutes. They will become puffy and soft. This step makes them light and fluffy.

Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for twenty to twenty-five minutes. They should turn golden brown on top. Do not overbake to keep them soft.

Prepare the Glaze

  • In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Mix until creamy. Spread over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh yeast for best rise.
  • Do not overheat the milk.
  • Let the dough rise fully for soft rolls.
  • Store in airtight container for two days at room temperature.
  • Reheat in microwave for 20 seconds before serving.
