Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter for brushing

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • Add flour, baking powder, salt and sugar to a bowl. Mix gently.

Cut in Butter

  • Add cold butter cubes. Cut into flour until it looks like coarse crumbs.

Add Cheddar Cheese

  • Stir shredded cheddar into the mixture. Spread cheese evenly.

Add Buttermilk

  • Pour in cold buttermilk. Stir gently until dough comes together.

Shape the Dough

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface. Pat gently into a thick round.

Cut the Biscuits

  • Cut dough into rounds or squares. Place them on the baking sheet.

Bake the Biscuits

  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden on top.

Brush with Butter

  • Brush warm biscuits with melted butter. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter and buttermilk.
  • Shred cheese fresh for better melting.
  • Do not overmix the dough.
  • Bake biscuits close together for soft sides.
  • Serve them warm for best taste.
