Ingredients
  

  • Canned navy beans – 4 cups drained
  • Bacon – 6 slices chopped
  • Yellow onion – 1 large chopped
  • Garlic – 2 cloves minced
  • Brown sugar – ½ cup
  • Ketchup – ½ cup
  • Molasses – 2 tablespoons
  • Dijon mustard – 1 tablespoon
  • Apple cider vinegar – 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Water – ½ cup

Instructions
 

Prepare the oven

  • Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Lightly grease the baking dish and set aside.

Cook the bacon

  • Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat. Stir until crisp. Remove extra grease carefully.

Cook onion and garlic

  • Add onion to the bacon. Cook until soft. Add garlic and stir for one minute.

Mix the sauce

  • Add brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, mustard and vinegar. Stir until smooth and glossy.

Add the beans

  • Add drained beans and water. Stir gently so beans stay whole.

Transfer to dish

  • Pour everything into the baking dish. Spread evenly using a spoon.

Bake the beans

  • Bake uncovered at 325°F for 90 minutes. Stir once halfway through baking.

Rest before serving

  • Remove from oven. Let rest ten minutes before serving for thicker sauce.
