Ingredients

  • 6 large apples peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 pie crusts top and bottom
  • 1 egg for brushing

Instructions

Prepare the Apples

  • Peel and slice apples. Make thin slices so they cook fast and become soft inside the pie.

Mix the Filling

  • Add sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour and lemon juice. Mix until apples are coated well.

Roll the Crust

  • Roll out the bottom crust. Place it in the pie dish. Press gently so it fits well.

Add the Filling

  • Pour the apple filling into the crust. Spread evenly so the pie bakes evenly throughout.

Add the Butter

  • Cut the butter into small cubes. Place them on top of the apple mix before covering.

Cover With Top Crust

  • Place the second crust on top. Seal edges with your fingers. Make small slits for steam.

Brush the Top

  • Brush the top with beaten egg. This gives the pie a shiny, golden crust after baking.

Bake the Pie

  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 50 minutes. Remove when the crust is golden and apples are soft.

Cool Before Serving

  • Let the pie cool for a while. This helps the filling set and makes slices neat and clean.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith.
  • Slice apples evenly for even cooking.
  • Add lemon juice to balance sweetness.
  • Do not skip slits on the top crust.
  • Let the pie cool before cutting.
