Ingredients

  • 1 can 15 oz fruit cocktail with syrup
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon optional

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a medium baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray. This prevents sticking and helps the cobbler bake evenly.

Prepare the Fruit Layer

  • Open the fruit cocktail can and pour it into the baking dish. Do not drain the syrup. The syrup adds sweetness and moisture to the cobbler. Spread the fruit evenly.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Stir well so everything mixes evenly. This mixture will create the soft cobbler topping.

Add the Wet Ingredients

  • Add milk, melted butter and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir gently until the batter becomes smooth and slightly thick. Avoid overmixing to keep the topping soft.

Pour the Batter

  • Carefully pour the batter over the fruit cocktail in the baking dish. Spread it gently with a spoon so the fruit layer stays underneath the batter.

Bake the Cobbler

  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for about 40 minutes until the top becomes golden brown and the fruit filling bubbles around the edges.

Cool Slightly

  • Remove the cobbler from the oven. Let it cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. This helps the filling thicken and makes slicing easier.

Serve Warm

  • Spoon the cobbler into bowls while warm. Serve plain or add vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra sweetness and creaminess.

Notes

  • Use fruit cocktail with syrup for the best flavor.
  • Do not drain the fruit syrup.
  • Mix the batter gently to keep the topping soft.
  • Bake until the top becomes golden brown.
  • Let the cobbler rest before serving.
