Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and cut
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup heavy cream or milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 garlic cloves optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces. This helps them cook fast and evenly. You can use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes.

Boil the Potatoes

  • Put the potatoes in a big pot and cover with water. Add some salt. Boil for 15–20 minutes until soft. Check with a fork. If it goes in easily, they’re done.

Drain the Potatoes

  • Pour out the hot water. Let the potatoes rest for a minute to dry. This helps keep your mash creamy, not watery.

Mash the Potatoes

  • Mash the potatoes with a masher or hand mixer. Do it while they’re warm. Warm potatoes mash better and stay fluffy.

Add Butter and Cream

  • Melt butter with cream or milk in a small pot. Pour it into the mashed potatoes. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Add Seasoning

  • Add salt and pepper. If you like, add garlic for more flavor. Mix again until everything blends well.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Scoop the mashed potatoes into a bowl. Add a small piece of butter on top. Garnish with parsley if you like. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for smooth texture.
  • Warm the butter and cream before adding.
  • Mash the potatoes while hot.
  • Don’t mix too much or they get sticky.
  • Add garlic or herbs for extra flavor.
