Ingredients

  • 2 cups processed cheese cubed
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 can diced tomatoes with green chilies 10 oz
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro optional

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Measure all ingredients before starting. Cube the processed cheese and shred the cheddar cheese. Open the can of tomatoes and drain slightly if needed.

Melt the Butter

  • Place a saucepan over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely. Stir gently to prevent the butter from browning too much.

Add the Milk

  • Pour the milk into the saucepan. Stir well and heat slowly. Do not let the milk boil because it can affect the texture.

Add the Processed Cheese

  • Add the cubed processed cheese gradually. Stir constantly while it melts. This helps create a smooth and creamy cheese sauce.

Mix in the Cheddar Cheese

  • Add the shredded cheddar cheese. Continue stirring until fully melted. The mixture should become rich, thick and smooth.

Add Seasonings

  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin and black pepper. Stir well so the flavors spread evenly throughout the queso.

Add Tomatoes and Chilies

  • Pour in the diced tomatoes with green chilies. Mix gently until combined. Cook for about three minutes to blend flavors.

Finish and Serve

  • Remove from heat. Stir in chopped cilantro if desired. Transfer the queso to a serving bowl and enjoy while warm.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for better melting.
  • Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Cook over medium-low heat.
  • Add extra milk if the dip becomes too thick.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
  • Use quality cheese for richer flavor.
  • Warm the serving bowl before adding queso.
