Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Oven mitts

Ingredients

  • Ground beef – 1 pound
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Garlic powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Onion powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Worcestershire sauce – 1 tablespoon
  • Cheddar cheese slices – 4
  • Hamburger buns – 4
  • Lettuce leaves – 4
  • Tomato slices – 4

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. This keeps the oven clean and prevents sticking.

Mix the Beef

  • Place ground beef in a mixing bowl. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently with a spoon until fully combined.

Shape the Patties

  • Divide the beef mixture into four equal parts. Shape each into a round patty about one inch thick. Make a small dent in the middle with your thumb.

Place Patties on Sheet

  • Put the patties on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are spaced apart so heat can cook them evenly.

Bake the Burgers

  • Place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 20 minutes. Flip the patties halfway through cooking. They should be golden and cooked through.

Add Cheese

  • Remove the burgers from the oven. Place a slice of cheddar on top of each patty. Return to oven for 2–3 minutes until cheese melts.

Toast the Buns

  • Place hamburger buns in the oven for 1–2 minutes. Toast lightly until warm. Watch carefully so they do not burn.

Assemble the Burgers

  • Place the cooked patties on the buns. Add lettuce and tomato if you like. Top with condiments like ketchup, mustard or mayo. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh ground beef for best taste
  • Do not overmix meat, it keeps burgers juicy
  • Let patties rest 2 minutes before serving
